The Basin Advisory Committees represent the six watershed basins
shown on the map along with a committee focused on the aquifers
along the coast and a committee to provide interaction/coordination
between the State and North Georgia Metro Water Planning District’s
water management plans.
The primary purpose of the basin advisory committees is to provide structured “regional” perspectives
and input on water management objectives and potential policy tools and/or options. The
basin advisory committees will not be asked to reach consensus on specific decisions,
but will assess each set of policy option in some detail for the purpose of providing
insight from diverse perspectives to help EPD refine and improve Georgia’s
water management policies and/or options.
Because water follows geographic boundaries defined by nature,
these basin advisory committees have been organized along river
basin and aquifer boundaries (note that this approach is not intended
to suggest the boundaries for subsequent substate planning). These “regional” (i.e.,
basin) perspectives would be best reflected by representatives
of an array of water-related interests from the geographical area
covered by each BAC.
The policy options presented to the BACs for each water management
objective are posted here.
